Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program
Research has consistently shown that a properly designed and executed exercise program helps people with arthritis keep joints flexible, maintain muscle strength, and build overall stamina. During the 6 week program, participants will go through a series of gentle movements, exercises, and activities designed to increase mobility and range of motion.
Arthritis Self-Help Course
Help yourself to a better life by participating in the Arthritis Self-Help Course. This six session course covers such subjects as medication, exercise, stress management, dealing with depression, nutrition, unproven remedies, and the doctor-patient relationship. Class includes discussion, lectures, videos, and hands-on activities.
Debtor Education
Debtor education is designed for individuals who have filed or are in the process of filing for bankruptcy. This class meets the post-bankruptcy education requirement as required by the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005. This two-hour class covers a variety of topics related to financial management including building a budget, wise use of credit, and consumer rights and protection. This class is offered on an as-needed basis, by appointment throughout the year.
Dining with Diabetes
If you have diabetes, selecting and preparing foods that are low in sugar, fat, and sodium can be a real challenge. This series of classes will teach, through demonstration and hands-on activities, nutritious ways to cut sugar, salt, and fat in your favorite recipes.
Parenting Apart: Effective Co-Parenting
Parenting Apart is an educational program for parents who have filed for divorce in Tennessee. It is mandated by law that divorcing couples of minor children attend a parent education course. Parenting Apart fulfills this requirement. Through this four-hour course, parents learn how to help their children cope with the issues that arise because of the divorce. Topics covered during the course range from facts about divorce to keeping children out of the middle of conflict. Classes include discussion, videos, lectures, and roleplay activities. This course is offered continually throughout the year.
Preserving Food Safely at Home
Nothing tastes better than home-preserved food. During this four week course, participants will learn basic food preservation principles for safely canning fruits, vegetables, pickles, and jellied products. Class uses a variety of teaching techniques including discussion, demonstration, and hands-on canning experience.
Retirement Strategies for Young Employees
It is not too early to begin thinking about your retirement income. The earlier you begin planning for retirement finances, the more options you will have and the more risk you can afford to take with your investments. This course is designed to provide young employees with the information they need to begin preparing for retirement. Course will cover savings plans options, wealth-building strategies, as well as ways to estimate your retirement income needs.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi from the Arthritis Foundation is a program designed to improve the quality of life for people with arthritis. The program uses Sun style Tai Chi; one that is particularly effective for people with arthritis because it includes agile steps and exercises that improve mobility, breathing, and relaxation. The six session program consists of 12 movements as well as warm up and a cool down using Tai Chi Exercises.
Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program (TNCEP)
The mission of TNCEP is to empower limited-resource families to reduce the risk of poor nutrition, effectively use food stamps and related resources, and move toward self-sufficiency. Families across Tennessee are joining with each other and with local agencies to learn through TNCEP programs.
